Campers will once again be able to enjoy one of Tasmania’s most popular camping spots on the East Coast, with the reopening of Friendly Beaches Campground in Freycinet National Park.

It’s been almost two years since the closure of Friendly Beaches Campground at Isaacs Point in Tasmania, but now it’s set to reopen on Thursday, 17th of April – just in time for the Easter long weekend! The campground was closed after fires damaged the area in September 2023, but now it’s back in action, following restoration works.

‘Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service have been working hard to ensure families can get back to this area as soon and as safely as possible’, says Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks.

The reopening comes with some brand new facilities, including:

  • Two new toilet blocks (located on the previous toilet sites)
  • New signage to improve directions and safety
  • Restored lookout areas and a new replacement viewing platform
  • Restored beach access points at the northern end of the campground

The area is particularly popular as a quieter retreat from the popularity of many of the beaches in Freycinet National Park. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset and watch the waves coming in, away from the crowds.

Ready to plan your trip? Basic camping is available at Friendly Beaches’ Isaacs Point on a first-come, first-served basis (no bookings required) for a maximum of 14 nights, however, you’ll need a parks pass to get in. Learn more at the Parks Tasmania website.
