Thanks to a new UGG x Reese Cooper collab, you can step out in the rain without the dreaded soggy carpet experience.

When this came through my inbox, I definitely raised an eyebrow. Did we, as a society, really need gorpy UGGs? Are we okay? Once my forehead relaxed a bit, I thought, perhaps this is exactly the direction UGG needed to hike into.

Finally, the correct footwear for my seaplane!

Regardless of whether UGGs currently sit in your cupboard or not, there’s a high chance that they have in the past. We share the universal experience of seeing how they go in damp conditions, only to get wet toes and a wet dog smell. That’s probably why we ditched them all those years ago.

After browsing UGG’s website, it’s clear they know about this problem. They’ve offered a zillion water-resistant iterations throughout the years that we didn’t know about (UGG gumboots?!), so what’s so special about this new release?

I do enjoy the colours on offer

A Classic Goes Outdoorsy

The original UGG boot design is instantly recognisable and seems to have found its way back into the cool column when it comes to current trends. And now, it’s ready to go on some adventures.

Reese Cooper is an American outdoor and utility wear designer who’s given the good old UGG a multi-terrain refresh. The two styles, UGG Reese Cooper Classic Mini and Ultra Mini are made from CORDURA® and Gore-Tex, intended for functionality and outdoor protection.

The Classic Mini features a water-resistant CORDURA® fabric and two elastic toggles on the calf so you can adjust the way it sits on your shin. It’s definitely looking like a dancer’s warmup bootie. Or an elegant version of the low-fi waterproofing method of wrapping bags around your shoes at a festival. At least the Classic Mini would avoid getting muddied at the campground and still be comfy.

My feet feel warm just looking at this 😌

The Ultra Mini is more conventionally palatable, the ankle height boot featuring a non-wick Gore-Tex waterproof textile. It seems like the smoother transition when moving from city life to the countryside.

Okay I actually really like this

‘The goal for me was to create an UGG that could be considered a true everyday shoe. The only thing I ever struggled with when it came to UGG boots was the weather, so material choice and function came first when initially designing. Once those aspects were locked in, it was just refining and tweaking colours and shape to be more interesting but still wearable daily,’ said Reese Cooper.

The Next Outdoor Staple?

There’s currently not any other info on the shoes, but the soles don’t look like the classic UGG foam and have some sort of pattern, which is somewhat promising for outdoor activities.

You’ll have to wait and see on April 11th when they drop!

Do you reckon you’ll try a pair of these out? Let us know in the comments.
