What @hikingbec eats on a multi-day hike as a vege What @hikingbec eats on a multi-day hike as a vegetarian (and it’s ALL from the supermarket!)

No expensive freeze-dried meals! Just simple, calorie-dense food that fuels long days on the trail.

BREAKFAST:

Uncle Toby’s Quick Oats mixed with Powdered Peanut Butter — ready in minutes and keeps me going all morning. PB2 has been game changing!!

LUNCH:

Peanut Butter Wraps (a hiker classic for a reason — no refrigeration, loads of calories, zero effort) paired with Edgell Snack Time Black Beans with Capsicum & Charred Corn.

The zesty salsa makes it feel way more gourmet than it has any right to be out in the bush.

DINNER:

Option 1: Couscous packet + Helpful Harvest Dehydrated Veggie Mix + TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) for a hearty, protein-packed meal that rehydrates in minutes.

Option 2: Mi Goreng + Peanut Butter. Don’t knock it till you try it - it’s genuinely elite trail food

SNACKS (the real reason to go hiking):

Muesli bars / Nuts / Cheese (Babybel & Laughing Cow) / Banana chips / Chocolate covered chickpeas / Pretzels / Marzipan / Stroopwaffles / Dried mango, apricots & apple / Lollies / Sesame snaps

The snack variety is doing serious heavy lifting for morale on tough days!

PRO TIP:

Always pack olive oil and salt. Drizzle olive oil into literally any meal for an easy calorie boost, and good seasoning makes everything taste 10x better after a big day of hiking.

But what’s it really like working for a company that perfectly lines up with your interests?

From high (mountaintops) to low (spreadsheets) @tim_ashelford has written about what it’s like to manage an outdoor publisher!

Is it just cruising around the bush in @toyota4x4_aus HiLux everyday? Not quite. Follow our link in bio to read more.

@tim_ashelford spent a week of exploring the new interior, enjoying the battery-assisted engine, and noting the looks of yearning as he cruised past in sunglow.

The thrill of the climb, the movement through complex terrain, the triumph over challenge; it’s why we seek out the higher places – you simply can’t get this fix at sea level.

It’s just hiking, right? In the Relationship with Risk series, @betterhiking explores how we’re losing touch with risk in the outdoors, and how we can get back on track.
