The Nike ISPA Metamorph Poncho looks like it would be at home at the Met Gala, but Tim can’t help wanting it just a little bit.

When our good mates at Man of Many shared a post about this hyped-out poncho I couldn’t help but be a little…intrigued. Surely this wasn’t a real product right? Some aberration of high fashion?

Not so. It turns out that, in the US at least, for $600 ($907 AUD) you can buy the ISPA Metamorph Poncho for yourself.

Geez, I mostly see Nike through their running gear and think they have their head screwed on, then they do something like this.

I know what I’m taking onto Alone

What’s ISPA?

‘Improvise. Scavenge. Protect. Adapt.’

Lol, sometimes gorpcore is so cursed. The NikeLab ISPA page has undoubtedly cool marketing but can someone explain, ‘The resulting product relays an optimism about the power of design, addressing the discreet needs of the city dweller.’

Anyway, apparently 75% of this nearly-one-grand poncho is made of recycled fibres, which kind of satisfies the ‘scavenge’ bit.

A Convertible Poncho?

Despite my cynicism, I can’t help but be intrigued. Sure, in its current form, you’ll look like Obi-wan Kenobi if you head out for a coffee in this thing. But what if it was just a little bit more practical?

Storm, wind, or sun trooper

Could I genuinely have a raincoat that I can turn into a shelter to hide from the sun or patchy rain while I read a book or work remotely?

Are the people who actually buy this going to do that? No. Absolutely not. But I see the vision and I think I’m here for it.
