On the 14th of October Australia will vote on whether a First Nations Voice to Parliament should be enshrined in the constitution. But do First Nations people even want this? Here are 50 that do.

It’s clear by now that there are First Nations people on all sides of the argument. The words of prominent First Nations people like Jacinta Price, Warren Mundine, and Lidia Thorpe who have all publicly said they’re voting no, have been flashed all over the media. There are even some First Nations people who have decided to abstain from the referendum and not vote at all.

But despite this opposition, there’s an overwhelming number of First Nations people who strongly support and advocate for the Voice to Parliament and will be voting yes.

Our Social Media Manager and Boandik descendant Jack Brookes is voting yes because he believes it’s an opportunity to finally constitutionally recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the First Peoples here in Australia.

‘I hope that a yes vote leads to Australia taking on board the generous gift of the Uluru Statement of the Heart that outlines the path forward so that we can live in a truth-telling nation that acknowledges and learns from its dark past as we put in the work to move forward together.’

We’ve collated a list of over 50 influential First Nations individuals and groups from all walks of life who have actively shown support for the Voice. So next time someone says to you ‘First Nations people don’t even want this!’ send them this list.
