The Lowdown

Wind your way between Armidale and Bellingen, along the appropriately named scenic drive of Waterfall Way. Here you can take your pick of cascades, waterholes and gorges to explore.

I began my road trip along Waterfall Way from Armidale. About an hour into the drive I stopped at Ebor Falls. If you blink, you’ll miss its namesake village of Ebor, so watch closely!

I hadn’t researched Ebor Falls at all beforehand as I was actually headed to Crystal Shower Falls in Dorrigo National Park. I just saw a sign saying it was only one kilometre off Waterfall Way and headed down to take a look. It’s worth the stop.

The Upper Falls are not far from the carpark so it’s not much of a walk but the viewpoint offers a grand view of the tiered falls as they cascade down the cliff and into the valley below.

Walk along the bitumen path away from the carpark and you’ll come to a viewpoint of the valley beyond and the Lower Ebor Falls.

Surrounding the falls are tall gum trees and fields of yellow flowers. This is the perfect spot for a picnic with tables and bench seats scattered throughout the grounds.

Plan the drive along the 185km Waterfall Way to take a whole day as you stop at the waterfalls and gorges along the way or take a hike in the 5 national parks scattered along its length, including Cathedral Rocks, New England and Dorrigo.

Other must do stops along Waterfall Way are Crystal Shower Falls at Dorrigo National Park, Dangar Falls, and Wollomombi Falls.

How To Get There

Ebor Falls is located at the Armidale end of Waterfall Way. You can access Waterfall Way from Bellingen, off the Pacific Highway near Coffs Harbour. The second option would be to access from Armidale, off the New England Highway. Clear signage leads the way to Waterfall Way from either town.
