Not thriving – that’s how Tim might describe some of the contestants as we head into the third week of Alone.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re back and ripping the top off another episode of Alone Australia. I watched this episode with a hunting consultant, skilled in the art of staying warm in tough environments (our living room) and sourcing wild game (wet food).

Yep, I’m talking about the cat we adopted on the weekend. Chardy was transfixed by the on-screen vistas and ready to take down some of the 2D wildlife. Realising that was out of the question, he curled up and went to sleep.

Heads up! Alone Australia Season 3 spoilers from here on out.

Chardy could beat Shay’s 300-day claim

Eva’s Lost It

Ok ok, we could probably argue that Eva lost it a long time ago. Or that maybe she’s found it (living in an off-grid cabin) and we’ve all lost it in the concrete jungle. It goes both ways.

But I just want you to really look at that cake she’s made for herself out of mud and beard lichen. Did you ever make mud cakes as a kid? I didn’t. What kind of cake isn’t edible? What nonsense. You can tell I was fun at parties.

Prettier than a Woolies mud cake, but certainly not tastier

Eva hasn’t caught a fish yet, which would make me go insane too, to be fair. Yet as is custom, she’s having a fire outside, talking about her journey, and I knew then that it was done. It’s the morning of day 17, and she’s out, seemingly with a spring in her step, but I think that’s just how she talks.

Good crack Eva, two weeks without food is tough any way you slice it. 8 remain.

Shay Overthinks Things

I’m getting Mike from season 1 vibes from Shay. What do you mean your trap has an alarm bro? I love it haha. Unfortunately, Shay hasn’t had much luck on the food front, so he’s cooking up worms. Sing it with me now!

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me

I think I’ll go eat worms

Long ones, short ones, fat ones, skinny ones,

Ones that wriggle and squirm

Totally grot, but honestly seems like a decent snack. It might get him through until he can spear a fish (he implied that holding a rod was too boring).

Worm soup anyone?

That storm was weak as piss?

Seriously, it allegedly came in just after Eva left and looked ready to tear the place apart, but then it just faded out? I dunno, maybe I got distracted by the cat (he decided to sit on my shoulder).

I thought that maybe Ben had brought the rapture, but instead we quickly pivoted to Muzza having a sleep in and saying he’d eaten for 10 days in a row. Flex harder bruv!

It’s a curl-up-in-shelter kinda day

Tom can get more done with one hand than I could with three

The storm spooked Tom enough to build a proper door for his shelter and keep out any sideways rain. So what’s it gonna be, ferns?

Nah mate, paperbark, harvested and laced into a beaut wooden frame. Screw Ikea, that door looks way tougher than a Björköviken. It’s gonna be toasty in Tom Town tonight.

Chuck this on your cover, Architectural Digest

I’m seriously impressed by both his skills and ability without that hand. I was worried that he hadn’t caught a fish, but now he’s done that too, right as things were getting grim.

Amy predicted the single hand could lead to an accident that takes Tom out, but I reckon it’ll be the young kid at home that ultimately sends him packing.

Corinne is straight winging it, I think?

I want to start by saying that I love Corinne, she’s bringing great energy to the show and a can-do attitude. She’s woven a fairly impressive net too, so maybe all that YouTube paid off.

Compared to Shay, her trap seems fairly simple, and she forgot to actually hook it up before testing (lol). But given we see her gnawing on a huge skinned pademelon in the intro, I reckon she nails it. Go off sis.

Beginner’s luck is real and we love to see it for Corinne

Making a smoker is the ultimate flex

Honestly, once someone starts building a smoker on Alone, that’s when you know they’re hitting their stride. Muzza just dumped it on us last ep with his tower of fishy goodness, now Ceilidh is building a highly aesthetic one into the wall of her shelter.

What’s a sign of success for Alone contestants AND watchers? Owning a smoker

Honestly, I rate that; it means you only need to keep one fire going and you benefit from its warmth. That being said, if you need your fire for cooking and boiling water too, having a separate smoker could make sense. Plus, Muz had to act quick.

Or you could just, not boil your water?

Ceilidh, noooo. After stacking mad trouts, Ceilidh is feeling unwell with pain while urinating and some other nasty stuff. Sitting in her tent, she ruminates on the times she drank the water without boiling it. Fuarrr, it’d be hard not to in somewhere so pristine, but who knows what nasties are there to buckle your weakened immune system.

Nooooooooooo!

Left Hanging!

Gotta say that was the most frustrating cliffhanger in a while. They cut it off as the medic walked back to Ceilidh (sidenote: did not know you could call them without tapping out, was that an option for Mike last season when he thought he was having a heart attack?).

Safe to say, if they held it back, they probably want to save that removal for next episode. I really hope not, as Ceilidh is one of my favourite contestants and medical taps suck.

What did you think? Have your predictions changed as we close in on the fourth week with eight contestants still in play? Let us know in the comments.
