We Are Explorers has thrown its support behind Adventure Reels and its inspiring tour of 25 Australian cities. See you there?

Adventure films are the best. They’re their own little genre; a soup of funny, uplifting, and ridiculously motivating stories, garnished with properly epic cinematography and, usually, a side of intense action or hardship.

Our mates at Adventure Reels have been running adventure film tours in Australia for years, including the Banff Mountain Film Festival (heard of it?), the Gutsy Girls Adventure Film Tour, the Ocean Film Festival World Tour, and the Top Dog Film Festival (yep, it’s just about how good dogs are, fair play).

The new festival is simply called the Adventure Reels Film Tour and seeks to be a home-grown experience that brings together everything that makes adventure films so damn great. It’s replacing the Radical Reels Film Tour, but as you can see from the trailer, action is still very much on the menu.

Action sports are still the prime focus – Film: 100 Days in Fiordland

It’s about more than just films, too. Adventure Reels plans to level up the vibes in the foyer, with a bigger focus on community and a festival vibe.

‘It’s not just about showing epic films – it’s about building a fresh tradition that belongs to us’, said Founder & Director Jemima Robinson. ‘This is Australia’s own adventure film tour.’

Go on, what are the films?

This first year features eight big screen premieres in Australia, and two of those premieres are global! There’s a mix of films from around the world, including two from New Zealand. None from Australia this time around, but Jemima tells me that’s very much on the cards.

Importantly, the films are curated locally to resonate with Australian audiences and our approach to the outdoors, rather than being shipped out as a package from abroad.
