Weighing in at just 8g, the Rumpl Beer Blanket could be the ultralight stubby cooler you didn’t know you needed.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m pretty rubbish at camping. Despite doing it all the time, getting hold of some great gear, and being the gear editor for We Are Explorers, I always seem to get it a bit wrong. So when it comes to drinking a cold one around the campfire, it’s no surprise that I’ve never even considered bringing a stubby cooler, or beer blanket, to the party.

To be fair, I’m English. I’d never seen a kozie before moving to Australia 9 years ago. It still surprises me whenever someone pulls one out or better yet offers me one. I’m just used to getting cold fingers holding a can and the idea of doing something about it has never crossed my mind.

It’s kinda stupid really. You wouldn’t take a hot tray out of the oven without oven gloves, so why hold something cold in your hand all evening without similar protection. Luckily, I was sent a couple of Beer Blankets from Rumpl and boy have they rocked my world.

No longer am I the stubbornly cold guy sitting around the campfire with cold fingers, probably wearing shorts and a puffy jacket that isn’t puffy enough for Canberra winter. Yes, I’m still not dressing warm enough for the weather, but at least now my hands are kept a little warmer. Bonus, my beer’s also kept a little cooler.

Craft beer optional, but recommended.

Rumpl Beer Blanket

These little beer blankets from Rumpl are super cute, look just like their big brothers, the Puffy Blanket, and pack away into their own wee little stuff sack. It’s like someone took your standard Aussie stubby cooler, sporting the Southern Cross and a kangaroo, and adventurised it for the outdoor world.

Weighing in at 8g, the Rumpl beer blanket adds basically nothing to your pack weight. The attached snap clip means you can proudly dangle it from an external strap, if dangling is your jam. Sold individually, or as a six-pack, these sleeping bags for your beers might just be that piece of adventure gear you didn’t know you were missing, I certainly didn’t!

Bottom’s up

Keeps your hand warm and your drink cold.

Design

Wraps comfortably around your beer. Fits one craft beer, or other cold beverage, in a standard can or bottle. Crossed support straps at the bottom stop your cold one from falling out.

Looks like a Rumpl blanket. Comes in a fun range of colours – and this classic blue.
