Is your dream to spend your working days outside in the bush? This could be your chance.

Parks Victoria is currently advertising for 62 Park Ranger positions around the state.

What does a park ranger do?

Rangers traditionally spend their days helping park visitors, maintaining park facilities including trails, safeguarding native flora, fauna, and landscapes, and working alongside Traditional Custodians, communities, volunteers, and park partners.

‘Our rangers are so important to Victoria – whether it’s in one of our urban parks, a marine sanctuary, a campground or a wilderness area, everyone benefits from the work they do and the passion they bring to each day’, said Parks Victoria Chief Executive, Lee Miezis.

Where are the positions located?

The 62 vacant positions include:

  • 18 in Northeast Victoria
  • 15 in Northwest Victoria
  • 11 in Southwest Victoria
  • 11 in Gippsland
  • 5 in Greater Melbourne
  • 2 in East Port Phillip and Western Port

Successful applicants could spend their work days in the heights of the Grampians, on the banks of the Murray River, deep in the Mallee, or on the wild Gippsland coast.

There are also a handful of positions available within the city or a short drive away in the Dandenong Ranges, Keilor Plains, and Mornington Peninsula.

Who is Parks Victoria looking for?

A park ranger role is suited to someone with relevant skills for the on-ground management of parks.

This could be trade skills, outdoor education or community engagement experience. It may also be qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management, or conservation and land management.

‘This is a great opportunity for people who feel drawn to the great outdoors to play an active role in keeping Victoria’s parks accessible, safe and thriving. New recruits will join established, purpose-led teams who work at the forefront of outdoor recreation and conservation’, Miezis said.

Six of the roles are dedicated First Nations positions.

For those interested in Maritime and Waterways roles, experience working on and above water is needed, including coxswains qualifications.

When do I need to apply?
