The recipients of this year’s Explore Fund have been announced, and boy, do these organisations deserve it.

What is the Explore Fund?

Our friends at The North Face want to support organisations that actively work to make outdoor participation more accessible, or help protect the environment so we can enjoy it for years to come.

As you probably guessed from the name, the Explore Fund helps financially support events, workshops, or activities that a chosen organisation has proposed.

Let’s meet some legends!

Mappa Outdoor

Some of us may head into nature to get away from people, but Mappa knows that outdoor recreation and education are the best catalysts for meaningful connection with others.

Mappa Outdoor hosts experiences and workshops held in partnership with First Nations groups and field experts, including fun things like wild mushroom foraging, learning the fundamentals of bird identification, and overnight camping to observe shearwater seabirds – just to name a few.

The Explore Fund grant will support Mappa with more awesome educational workshops around climbing and geology, and stargazing and astronomy!

Tasmanian Wilderness Guides Association

The Tasmanian Wilderness Guides Association (TWGA) was formed in 2019 and has since championed its members so that they can gain fair employment, career pathways, and better working conditions. It’s the united voice that brings Tasmania’s outdoor guiding community together and shapes the state’s sustainable tourism industry.

To keep Tassie’s tourism the unique and distinctive sector it is, the Explore Fund will help TWGA create a cultural awareness trip that takes keen pakana/palawa people on a 9-day trek of the South Coast Track. It aims to create a community of wilderness guides that can share knowledge about caring for Country in alliance with the Tasmanian Aboriginal People.

Mastering Mountains

Mastering Mountains are the folks who assist New Zealanders with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) to get outdoors on a self-directed adventure. Successful applicants will get their rehab training, mentoring services, and outdoor gear all paid for so that they can achieve their wilderness goals and secure long-term access to the outdoors. How good!

The Explore Fund from The North Face will help three people get closer to their outdoor goals and connect with invaluable mentorship in New Zealand.

Want to be one of next year’s grantees? Applications for The North Face Explore Fund 2025 will open in the coming months. Make sure you check your eligibility first.
