Planning a trip in Western Australia’s South West but not sure what to put on your priority list? The Granite Skywalk in Porongurup National Park is a must-do if you’re a lover of nature and breathtaking views.

We acknowledge that this adventure is located on Minang Nation, the traditional Country of the Minang group of the Nyungar people who have occupied and cared for this land and water for thousands of years. We pay our respects to them as the Traditional Custodians and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.

The Walk to Granite Skywalk Lookout

Enjoy a beautiful hike through nature to reach the Granite Skywalk on top of Castle Rock. With sunlight shining through the trees, the walk can become quite hot so water, a cap, and sunscreen are essential.

There are some beautiful mushrooms along the way if you look closely – some are hidden under freshly-fallen leaves, others hide behind fallen tree trunks. There are also many varieties of flowers and bird species that can be seen throughout the year. At some points, the hike can get tiring with steep steps and rock so make sure you’re moderately fit and able to walk up big steps.

When you reach the top of Castle Rock, there are two lookouts to explore. The lower lookout requires a bit of rock climbing using metal bars fixed in massive boulders. You’ll get a stunning view of the forest and green fields while standing on these massive boulders.

The other path takes you to the upper lookout with a boardwalk that wraps around the enormous boulder. From here you can get a 270 degree view of the breathtaking landscape below.

Keep in mind that to reach the lookout you need to climb through a narrow path surrounded by overhead boulders, then up a ladder. The ladder is safe, six metres in height, and surrounded by metal bars.

At the very top, the lookout oversees masses of green fields and forests. It can get very windy, so a windproof jacket is highly recommended. Snap beautiful photos to show off to your friends and take a moment to admire nature in all its beauty.
