One of the longest running multi-stage MTB races in the Asia-Pacific region is set to keep on rolling with the WA Government confirming funding for the event for the next three years.

The Cape to Cape MTB race is a four-stage multi-day event in the South West of WA, where racers ride through some of the best trails in Cape Leeuwin, Nannup, Margaret River, and Cape Naturaliste.

It’s huge news for the Cape to Cape which started with 100 competitors in 2008 and now lays claim to one of the longest-running and biggest multi-stage MTB races in the Asia-Pacific region, boasting over 1300 competitors annually. The event has become a mainstay on the Western Australian event calendar and for good reason – in 2023 it was estimated that over 2,200 visitors injected $2.8 million into the local economy.

‘These types of events are always fantastic for local businesses, giving competitors and their supporters the chance to enjoy all the South West has to offer with its world-class food, wineries, tourism experiences, and scenery’, says Jane Kelsbie, MLA for Warren-Blackwood.

This Year’s Cape to Cape

This year’s race will take participants through approximately 200km of the region’s most iconic destinations in the South West, with a mix of fun and challenging terrain, featuring lighthouse views, crashing waves, rocky trails, and berms.

‘By attracting thousands of participants, the event not only drives tourism and economic outcomes but also offers a global audience the chance to admire the South West’s natural beauty, with a highlights program broadcast internationally’, says Tourism Minister, Rita Saffioti.

This year’s edition also has a brand new stage that will see riders navigate Nannup Tank 7 Mountain Bike Park.

With a growing reputation and prize money on offer, this year’s Cape to Cape has an internationally recognized line-up with names like Rebecca Henderson, Brent Rees, Cameron Ivory, Izzy Flint, and Connor Wright joining the ranks.

The 2024 edition of Cape to Cape will take place over the 17th-20th of October with $25,000 in prize money up for grabs.
