Turns out that boatin’, campin’ ‘n’ fishin’ can be just as peaceful as a multi-day hike. We loved the way Cam captured this three day expedition, so he’s shared his reflections on the adventure.

I’d wanted to visit this place, simply known as ‘The Gorge’, for years. It’s one of those locations that quietly sits on your bucket list, resurfacing every time you see a photo or hear someone mention it. When the opportunity finally lined up, it felt like the right moment to stop talking about it and actually go.

I’d recently picked up a new True Kit boat paired with a Suzuki outboard, and this trip felt like the perfect test. Navigating upriver meant threading through rapids, constantly reading the water, and keeping a sharp eye out for submerged boulders lurking just beneath the surface. It wasn’t just an adventure, it was hands-on learning, figuring out how the boat handled, how the motor responded, and how much trust I could place in both.

There were a lot of firsts on this trip. Freshwater fishing for one, but more specifically, bass fishing. We’d heard stories of giant bass living deep in The Gorge, smart, elusive, and hard-earned.

That became the goal for the weekend. Not just to catch a fish, but to earn it.

The journey itself set the tone. We spent around four hours of driving before reaching camp, and the moment we arrived, the views made every kilometre worth it. Sheer rock walls, still water, and that feeling of being properly away from everything. No noise, no rush, just the river and the landscape doing what they’ve always done.

The trip turned out to be epic, but not easy. Landing that giant bass became a real challenge, testing patience, technique, and resolve. And honestly, that’s exactly what we wanted. If it was too simple, it wouldn’t feel like a true adventure. Sometimes the reward isn’t just the catch; it’s the effort, the learning, and the quiet satisfaction of finally standing in a place you’ve imagined for years, knowing you got there under your own steam.
