About Te Waihou Walkway | Blue Springs Walk

The Te Waihou Walkway travels alongside a magnificent crystal-clear river, which flows from the renowned Blue Springs.

The Blue Springs, located along the walkway, is famous for the luminous blue colour they create due to the high and natural purity of the spring water.

These springs support the local community with water and are also the source of water for many around the world, with businesses like Pump and NZ Pure Blue bottling from these springs.

History of Te Waihou Walkway | Blue Springs Walk History

Over time there has been an influx of visitors to the Blue Springs who are drawn to see the luminous blue waters. This has resulted in increased protection of the area.

For a time, swimming was allowed in the waters, however it began to deteriorate the river bed and the water quality lost its clear purity.

As a result, swimming’s no longer allowed in this space, a natural treasure that’s deeply protected by the local guardians.
