Aldi’s middle aisle specials have received an upgrade – the supermarket now offers holidays! It’s like the staff saw people grabbing their $3 wine and budget toilet paper and thought, ‘These folks need a discount holiday!’.

As the two big supermarkets, Woolworths and Coles, are under the public spotlight for price gouging and recording billion-dollar profits during a cost of living crisis, Aldi’s been quietly working away at a new discount offering for its Aussie customers – holiday packages. So now you can get your bread, milk, and five-day cruise all in the same location! Makes sense, right?

How do ALDI Holidays work?

Run in a similar way to ALDI’s bi-weekly Special Buys, Aldi Holidays will offer a limited number of exclusive holiday deals until they’re sold out.

The first round of holiday packages dropped on the 2nd of October and included packages as cheap as $449 per person with escapes to Surfers Paradise, the Whitsundays, Fiji, Thailand, and Hawaii. There are also cruise packages around Japan and the Pacific Islands and tours in South Africa, Europe, and China. And as far as we’re aware you’ll get to visit the actual destination, not a budget Aldi-brand version of it.

You can customise your holiday with preferred airlines and departure airports across Australia, and adjustable stays and room upgrades. But you’d better be clear on the terms and conditions when making your plans.

ALDI Holidays is now available to book your next holiday.

Is an Aldi Holiday worth it?

People love an Aldi special, so the idea of an Aldi holiday has potential – apparently, it’s already quite a success overseas. Rodney Balech, Group Director, Aldi Australia says they wanted to simplify the holiday planning process, making it a more enjoyable experience in a ‘Good Different’ way.

‘This service, in partnership with Ignite Travel, will unlock incredible value and help all types of travellers create truly unforgettable experiences’, he said. ‘From budget-friendly bliss to extravagant escapes, there are different levels of luxury for every keen explorer’. Explorer you say? We’ll be the judge of that.

Of course, Ryan Thomas, CEO of Ignite Travel Group is excited about it too.

‘Aldi Holiday customers can expect incredible savings with these exclusively curated holiday packages including flights, local experiences and more, covering some of the most popular destinations around the world,’ he said.

Thomas also pointed out that they have a dedicated ‘Aldi Holidays Sales Centre’. My question is, will the sales assistant rush you through the checkout at the same pace as the cashiers in store?
