Redefine your limits. IAN is now free to watch online.

Reckon you’re over the hill? That your best days are behind you? Ian Elliot didn’t. In his 50s he discovered rock climbing, and just before turning 70, he climbed a grade 28.

If you’re not a climber, just know that 28 is well into the red zone, it’s bloody hard and to do it at that age is almost unheard of.

Director Matt Raimondo is an award-winning Australian filmmaker and keen rock climber. He met Ian (now 72) six years ago and was quickly enthralled by his enthusiasm and incredible skill level. Matt set out to capture Ian’s journey, as well as his deep relationship with nature, to inspire us all to push our own boundaries.

Shots of Ian’s climbing in the notoriously challenging Coolum Cave were captured with the help of cinematographer Caleb Ware. With a camera mounted on a stabilised gimbal, hung from ropes and remotely controlled, the team filmed in a way that even drones can’t manage.

Matt wanted to inspire people of all ages with a film fit for the big screen.

‘Young climbers see him and realise they can keep climbing into their senior years, while older people see what’s still possible’, he said.

He obviously got something right. IAN was included in the Banff Mountain Film Festival and toured with Radical Reels last year. Now you can watch it from your couch.
