In 2009, Ben entered a competition he found in the classifieds of a newspaper in England to become the caretaker of the islands of the Great Barrier Reef.

Prevailing over 35,000 other applicants from across the world, Ben won the competition and was thrown into the deep end touring the islands and Tropical North Queensland with an entourage of media for six unforgettable months.

2009 seems a lot further back in time than other standard 14-year periods throughout history. Instagram was a year away from launching, Spotify was in its infancy, and most importantly the first Twilight movie had just premiered.

Ben essentially became one of the first influencers, sharing his experiences and adventures as a blogger and online personality to encourage others to discover the magic of the Great Barrier Reefs’ islands for themselves.

Just take a look at Ben’s application video for the contest for a blast from the past. No IG Reels in sight.

Since then Ben has continued to make adventure his life and share his enthusiasm and wonder for the world with others through his company Best Life Adventures.

Join one of their epic expeditions trekking to Everest or through Tanzania, kayaking in the Torres Strait or towing sleds through the Arctic Circle.
