Looking for a bush getaway this weekend? NSW National Parks has just opened the doors to this newly refurbished cabin near Walcha in NSW’s New England High Country. Go on, take a peek.

Location

Tucked away into Werrikimbe National Park, Mooraback Cabin is nestled in a valley, right by the head of the Hastings River, about 6 hours’ drive from Sydney and 7.5 hours from Brisbane.

The cabin is in a mint location to enjoy all the best the surrounding national parks have to offer. From hiking and biking trails, to waterfalls and swim spots, this area is packed with adventure, flora, and fauna – including World Heritage-listed Gondwana rainforest. Now that’s something you don’t see every day.

The Cabin & Surrounds

The cabin has been standing since 1975 when it was used as a base for the NPWS staff who worked in the park, but has undergone a refurbishment and is now the perfect place for you and your mates to spend a weekend in nature.

With two bedrooms that can sleep up to six people, plus a fully equipped kitchen, sundeck, and outdoor firepit, there’s little left to ask for. Except wheelchair accessibility! And it’s got that too.

Don’t be surprised if you wake to the sight of roos and wallabies grazing nearby and hear the tweets of Fantails, robins, and Brown thornbills flitting through the trees.

Try your luck at spotting a platypus, on the suggestively named, Platypus Pool walking track, or talk the Carabeen Walk and listen out for lyrebirds.

In short, a weekend at Mooraback Cabin will have you enveloped with nature.

You can book the whole place for $135 a night, and there’s a minimum three night stay so you can really soak it all in!

Bookings are open now for stays from 16th of December 2022.
