Outdoor apparel legends Arc’teryx have been on the Aussie scene for about a decade now, and this year they’re really ramping things up. Back in March they launched a dedicated Aussie online store and now they’re taking it to the next level, by opening a flagship store in Melbourne.

Their first store in Australia celebrates its grand opening on August 1st, right in Melbourne’s CBD. And as stores go, this one’s a belter:

‘Paying homage to Arc’teryx Canadian heritage, the Melbourne space cultivates all the dreamy wilderness vibes of British Columbia’s mountains and Canada’s coastal forests, along with newfound inspiration from Melbourne’s backyard of climbing gyms, rugged national parks and unique eucalyptus-strewn backcountry.’

Opening an Aussie store is a big move and Arc’teryx has some pretty big plans. They’re aiming to cultivate a greater understanding of and involvement in the outdoor scene down under. Great news for us, the more involved a brand is in the local scene, the greater understanding they’ll have of our outdoor spaces, meaning the gear they produce will be even better.

Building The Scene

At WAE, we’ve experienced first-hand the community engagement that Arc’teryx brings to the table. Last year we partnered up to bring you guys a backcountry skiing and splitboarding weekend in the snowy mountains. We followed up with a crimpin’ bouldering and talk series with mountaineer Dom Douglas and climber/photographer Olivia Page. And then we sent our editor, Tim, off mountaineering in NZ to really test out their gear. His verdict – it rocks.

Fancy exploring the backcountry with Arc’teryx? You can. Check out round two of the backcountry series.

‘Arc’teryx will be able to tell and listen to local stories, to increase the breadth of its range and to truly show that they are invested in Australia’s people, culture and wild spaces.’

The new Melbourne store celebrated the launch with a kickass opening night, just ask our photographer Pat who woke up more than a little dusty the next morning. And from August 1st they’ll be open and ready to chat innovation, sustainability, and help you get stoked for your next adventure.

The Melbourne Arc’teryx Store is located on the Lower Ground in the Melbourne Emporium – 287 Lonsdale St, Melbourne VIC 3000
