Sunday 7th September is creeping up and as much as dad says he just wants your presence as a present, we reckon he’d be chuffed with something from Nakie – and potentially a new caravan!

How good is making stuff out of plastic bottles? If there’s one thing we need much more of it’s ways to turn single-use plastic into tough items that go the distance. That was the thinking when scuba divers Dean, Jaryd, and Tegan started Nakie with a goal to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans.

The brand started in a garage in 2019 with the world’s first 100% recycled hammock made from 37 plastic bottles. Since then, they’ve moved into a self-sufficient HQ (complete with solar panels and water tanks) and expanded their range to include sand-free towels, puffy blankets, and even backpacks.

Nakie plants trees in Madagascar and Kenya

So what’s this about a caravan?

It’s a competition! And you can enter it by getting your dad something from Nakie to say cheers for all the wisdom I’m sure he’s imparted over the years. From the 15th of August to the 6th of September (geez, leaving it to the last minute), every order from the site goes into the draw.

What’s more, there’s currently 30% off site-wide, and the Nakie team has made a gift guide to get you started.

Suggested vibe

Tim, the caravan?

Oh the MDC XL15-4E MKIII? Yeah, she’s a beaut mate. Valued at $69,990 (nice), this is more of an overlanding house on wheels than your typical caravan park attendee. Features of this shockingly-named house on wheels include:

  • Fully ready for off-grid living
  • King-size bed
  • Space for two adults and two kids
  • 745W solar power
  • 600Ah lithium battery
  • Electric lift roof
  • European-made diesel heater
  • Internal kitchen
  • Heaps more, it’s actually crazy

Oh, and hot tip, spend over $180 and you’ll get three entries.

My Top Picks

This is easy, I’m just going to highlight the things I’d get my Dad, who already has an off-road camper (which he named Inheritance 😭).

Sand Free Beach Towel

Not sure what kind of voodoo Nakie is using here, but my Dad HATES sand and how it sticks to everything. Not this towel! It’s also made from 28 plastic bottles, and they plant four trees when you buy it. And there’s an NRL range? Lol.

Sustainable Puffy Blanket

Dads always think they’re 17 and don’t need a jacket, until they’re sitting in their camp chair, ‘just resting their eyes’, of course. This blanket’s 2m by 1.4m and has a recycled plastic fill equivalent to 600 loft down. But you can get it dirty and chuck it in the washing machine for next time. 54 plastic bottles in this one, and four trees in the ground too.

Ultralight Tarp

The awning’s too small, it’s raining sideways, and mum’s getting wet. Help your dad save the day with this 3m x 3m tarp. With 3000mm PU-coated polyester that’s waterproof, ripstop, and recycled, and heaps of connection points, it’s a no-brainer. You might even have to borrow it for a hike or two.
