Escape the day-to-day and find yourself in takayna/Tarkine, on lutruwita/Tasmania’s stunning west coast for 4 days learning navigation and connecting with this remote and wild place.

Based at Corinna Wilderness Village, we will come together and learn to navigate by traditional map and compass, read and interpret topographic maps with confidence, and importantly, learn to read the landscape and how to walk with it, not against it.

Led by instructor and author, Caro Ryan of How to Navigate and LotsaFreshAir, we begin in Launceston and travel by private minibus to the north coast of Tasmania, through picturesque agricultural regions and on to takayna/Tarkine on the wild west coast of Tasmania. We spend 3 nights in comfortable, cabin-style accommodation with all (home-cooked) meals included, and dive deep into Caro’s Introduction to Navigation course material.

Off-the-grid, we are disconnected from mobile coverage and wifi, allowing us to slow down to see and ‘be’ in this remote part of lutruwita. It’s about having the time to absorb the theory on day 1, walking out on Peternidic Country on day 2 and using all our five senses, learning to interpret the land, reading topographic maps, and using our compasses.

The last day includes a cruise on the Pieman River (just downstream from where Alone Australia season one was filmed) with an immersive navigation exercise.
