The controversial PEP11 project will be rejected by the Federal Government due to overwhelming community opposition! Huz-fucking-zah!

The Federal Government has indicated that any effort to renew the exploration licence for the proposed project, which expired in February last year, will not be accepted on a federal level.

‘This project will not proceed on our watch’, said Prime Minister Scott Morrison

‘Gas is an important part of Australia’s current and future energy mix but this is not the right project for these communities and pristine beaches and waters,’ he said.

PEP11 would see oil and gas exploration and extraction happening just 5.5km off Sydney’s coastline across a 4,5000 square kilometre area, stretching from Newcastle all the way down to Wollongong.

As well as high community opposition, the Federal Government also stated they believe Advent Energy would not secure sufficient funding in the timeframe of the permit and disagreed with Advent Energy that the reasons listed on the application were worthy of allowing an extension.

Although the Morrison Government may be the final stroke of the pen on this issue, the real hard yards have been put in by the community groups and activists that have campaigned fiercely for several years to prevent this project from crossing the line.

Big shout out to Save Our Coast, Surfrider Australia, Surfrider Northern Beaches, and Living Ocean for the tireless effort in spreading the campaign far and wide.

Here’s cheers to community action and to saving our coast!
