Elise Marcianti will be trail running and hiking a total of 300km through the Australian Alps on an expedition dubbed ‘Moving For The Mind’ to raise money and awareness for Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA).

Elise will begin her journey on the 7th of December with a 50km ultramarathon starting from the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, followed by 250km of hiking along the Australian Alps Walking Trail to end in Bright, Victoria. She aims to finish by the 22nd of December and be home in time for Christmas.

‘I want to inspire others battling an eating disorder or mental illness that not only is recovery possible, but that life can be full of passion and purpose,’ Elise says.

The mapped plan for Elise’s expedition!

This is a personal journey for Elise, who has recovered from a severe eating disorder she was diagnosed with nine years ago. During this time, Elise realised the impact was not only on her own mind and body, it also affected her family.

‘Getting help from my family was fundamental for my recovery, but they too needed help. They didn’t know where to go – they didn’t know what the right thing to do was’, says Elise.

What is Eating Disorders Families Australia?

Created by families, EDFA focuses solely on supporting the families and carers of people with eating disorders.

The belief is that families and carers are an important part of the treatment and recovery process for loved ones living with eating disorders. EDFA’s mission is to enable family members to be effective, supported, and recognised as an integral part of the recovery process.

Elise is aiming to raise $30,000 for EDFA and 100% of donations will go to helping people with eating disorders and their families.

Raising Awareness Through Nature

Elise explores her world through climbing, hiking, and art, and her story teaches us all about resilience. It’s a lesson that the path to happiness is through embracing our authentic selves. Recovery taught Elise the importance of connection – to herself, nature, and the community.

‘If there’s one thing recovery taught me, it’s that there’s nothing more important than looking after the mind and making that a priority in life,’ she says.
