Do you love nothing more than hunting down a rogue typo, finessing an Instagram caption, or executing the perfect crop?

Do you also love getting out into nature and want to work with a bunch of people dedicated to getting Aussies outdoors and caring about wild places?

Read on my friend! We’re looking for a Content Editor to help our Editorial and Social Media team to post more stuff, more often, and you might be the one to do it.

The Details

  • 6 month contract
  • 3 or 4 days a week (TBC)
  • Split evenly between editorial and social media work
  • Based anywhere within Australia
  • Need your own laptop, internet connection, and ability to reliably work from home/van/housesit/hammock
  • Preferred 9-5 hours AEST

What You’ll be Doing

You’ll be responsible for helping us prepare, publish, and promote the content shared on We Are Explorers.

This involves:

  • Proofreading, fact checking and editing written content to fit templates and our style guide
  • Writing news, feature, and SEO-optimised content
  • Communicating with creatives, senior editors, and our campaigns team to ensure content hits its goals
  • Uploading written and visual content into WordPress and formatting to fit the WAE style
  • Updating and rewriting old content to fit current guidelines and ensuring it’s SEO optimised
  • Sourcing high quality imagery and editing it if necessary
  • Assisting with website development

  • Scheduling content across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other services
  • Creating engaging captions and social copy
  • Setting up and maintaining ads on Meta
  • Creating social media tiles using templates in Canva
  • Helping to edit and commission vertical video with guidance from the Social Media Manager
  • Sourcing User Generated Content for the social media feeds

Who We’re Looking For

We Are Explorers hires first on culture, it’s non-negotiable for us. This means you’ll share our passion for outdoor adventures, life, and protecting the planet, as well as being easygoing and a great communicator.

We work passionately and proactively – as the role is remote we hire staff who can work independently, take initiative and problem solve, and who’ll ask questions if they can’t achieve their goals.

We’re looking for someone with a great handle on the English language, and an understanding of digital spaces and publishing. You must be able to curate and make decisions about visual content too.

You’ll be more likely to be considered for the role if you have:

  • A university degree, particularly one in Journalism, English, Marketing, or Public Relations
  • Experience in digital publishing
  • Experience managing and creating content for social media
  • Experience working with websites and/or personal blogs (e.g. WordPress)
  • Digital illustration or graphic design skills
  • Video editing skills

How do I apply?

Have we convinced you yet? To apply for the role please email with;

  • Your CV
  • A short cover letter
  • 150 words on what adventure means to you (remember to keep this fun, humorous, and entertaining in the style of WAE).

Pay Range

This is a junior role and it will be paid pro rata for the days worked per week based off of a salary in the $60-70k per year range.
