You’ll join an award-winning remote team who reach millions of Australians every month across the website, social media channels, and mailing list. The goal? Convince as many people as possible to get into nature, experience the life-changing benefits, and start caring about our threatened wild places.

The Details

  • Full time role
  • 5 days a week (38 hours/week)
  • The role will work across the editorial and social media teams
  • You may also be required to assist the production team
  • Can be based anywhere within Australia
  • Need your own computer and internet connection, and the ability to reliably work from your home/van/housesit/hammock
  • Working 9am-5pm hours AEST

 

What You’ll be Doing

You’ll be responsible for helping us prepare, publish, and promote the weekly content shared on We Are Explorers. This involves;

Editorial

  • Uploading edited written content into WordPress and formatting to fit the WAE style
  • Linking to other relevant articles on the site and checking included links are working and high quality
  • Ensuring title, headings, and meta copy are SEO and social media optimised
  • Compressing and uploading photos into WordPress, labelling, captioning, and including them appropriately in articles
  • Flagging where fact checking, further information or photo editing may be required
  • Pinning locations on our Adventure Map and cross referencing with Google maps
  • Including sponsor information, next to load, author, social image and copy
  • Creating author profiles
  • Tagging and categorising new articles
  • Revamping and updating old articles to fit current guidelines

Social

  • Scheduling content across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other services
  • Creating engaging captions and social copy
  • Creating social media tiles using templates in Canva
  • Sourcing User Generated Content for the social media feeds
  • Potentially creating content for Reels and/or TikTok

 

Who We’re Looking For

We Are Explorers hires first on culture, it’s non-negotiable for us. This means you’ll share our passion for outdoor adventures, life, and protecting the planet, as well as being easygoing and a great communicator.

We work passionately and proactively – as the role is remote we require staff who can work independently, take initiative, and problem solve, and who’ll ask questions if they can’t achieve their goals.

We’re looking for someone with a great handle on the English language, and an understanding of digital spaces and publishing. You must be able to curate and make decisions about visual content too.

This role is open to applicants from all backgrounds and we’re actively looking to recruit diverse individuals at We Are Explorers.

You’ll be more likely to be considered for the role if you have:

  • A university degree, particularly one in Journalism, English, Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations
  • Any experience in digital publishing
  • Any experience managing and creating content for social media
  • Any experience working with websites and/or personal blogs (e.g. WordPress)
  • Video creation or editing skills
  • Photography skills

Salary

This is an entry level role at $57,000 per annum as per the Journalists Published Media Award 2020.
