‘Mountain of Storms’ is an adventure film classic, a skiing and surfing road trip to the depths of Patagonia to put a new line up Mount Fitz Roy. And it’s now streaming online for free!

As if you needed a better reason to stay in?

‘Mountain of Storms’ tells the story of a legendary mountaineering expedition way back in 1968. Somehow it was captured on a 16mm Bolex camera (by none other than Mountainfilm founder Lito Tejada-Flores) to produce an adventure film that’s stood the test of time.

The film follows five mates who bundle into a van and drive from California to the far south of South America.

Not just any group of blokes though; the cast includes Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia and Black Diamond); Doug Tompkins (Co-Founder of The North Face); Chris Jones (legendary British rock climber) and Dick Dorworth (a member of the US ski and snowboard Hall of Fame).

After surfing, skiing and sand skiing (you’ll have to watch) their way down the coast, the self-named ‘Fun Hogs’ set off to make the third ascent of Cerro Fitz Roy – by making the first ascent of the southwest ridge. Yep that’s right, Cerro (or Mount) Fitz Roy is the mountain on the Patagonia logo.

Featuring a ripper retro soundtrack, 31 days in a snow cave and shots that’ll make you go ‘how the fu…’ ‘Mountain of Storms’ is an essential hour of your time.
