Your hometown // Melbourne

Day Job // Carpenter/ Construction

Weapons of Choice // I’ve been shooting for almost a year with my Nikon D610 and 24-70 F2.8. I’ve found through extended time abroad that an all-round set up suits my travel style. I recently picked up a Sigma 24mm Art lens, which has been great fun to play around with!

Where was your last microadventure // My last small trip was up to Bright and the surrounding Highlands in Victoria for two nights to meet some fellow photographers. Hosted by the locals, showcasing all Bright has to offer! There might have been more laughs than shots taken, but these days the social aspect of photography is just as important as the results themselves..

Where’s your next Australian microadventure going to be? // Another trip to the Grampians for an Astro Show! There’s currently a month long meteor shower in the Southern Hemisphere know as the Eta Aquarids. As the earth makes its annual pass through the tail of Halley’s Comet and the moon cycles into its new phase, the stars will be on show, and hopefully some meteorites as well!

Scariest thing thats happened to you in the wild // There has been a few over the weekends, but just recently whilst trying to light up an abandoned farm house, a curious horse emerged from the dark to have a nibble on my camera. There was a moment of fright followed by a mutual curiosity for each other.

Essential items // These days I wouldn’t be able to get half my shots without a headlamp or torch. Finding your way through the dark can be very exciting but obviously dangerous. I’ve fallen off a walking track after forgetting a torch, I was lucky enough to escape with a few scratches but it was an eye opener in many ways. Apart from the warm clothes and appropriate footwear I like to take a little whisky for the colder nights camping mountain side. Warming your bones and unwinding in good company makes for the best memories.

Favourite Quote // Im constantly finding inspiration in the written word, but a passage that stuck with me from the day I set out to improve my photography would be “a photograph should be more interesting than the subject and transcend its obviousness.”  I’ve always tried to keep that in mind when out shooting and trying to find compositions. I think people get caught up in the exposure/editing side of things, when viewing other peoples work I just love to see the individuals spin on a subject or location.
