Name // Aaron Kelly
Your hometown // Where I generally spend a lot of my time exploring and unwinding in: the Blue Mountains, NSW.
Day Job // A Tradesman which can be extremely tiring and stressful, microadventure or weekend trips are my escape from the day to day grind.
Camera and Lenses // I am currently shooting on a canon 6d, minolta x300 and canon AF35ML for longer adventures. digital lenses I use are both in the sigma art range 20mm and 50mm, these are generally the only lenses I use especially of late but had previously used 10-20mm sigma, tokina fisheye and the 70-200 canon l series.
What inspires you // Escape – this is what gets my bags packed and in the car driving. Seeing things that actually take effort and planning to see is also a large aspect of inspiration to me, particularly when there is a great reward at the end of the journey.
In terms of my photography, sharing the places I see and artistically representing them, the way I actually saw what was in front of me. This is what drives me to explore more and always work hard on making an image not just taking a photo, I guess thats a form of inspiration right?
Photographers and the people around you also play a big role in inspiring what you do, seeing what someone else has achieved and creating drive and stoke from that in my eyes is never a bad thing and truthfully inspires me, to work harder and to explore more.
Dream shot location in Australia // More remote mountain regions, Mount Kosciuszko/The Snowy Mountains, Australian Alps.
Advice // Although I don’t think I’m at the level to be giving advice to aspiring photographers, what I can say are the things I wish I knew when I first picked up a camera:
- keep it simple
- work on composition/rule of thirds
- take less shots/dont get trigger happy
- take your time
- open your eyes, look around you, look with your eyes not through the viewfinder.
- learn to edit/lightroom, photoshop etc.
And I know it may sound so simple, but just ask other photographers for tips if your stuck on something. Most people are generally more than happy to help you out whether they have 300k followers on instagram or 3, it can never hurt to ask.
