Every now and then we like to get to know some of our most committed Explorers. Today, let’s meet Forest Harder from Forest Harder Images.

Hometown

I grew up in Adelaide SA.  Originally born in Te Awamutu in the North Island of NZ.  My ma is Canadian, dad’s a Kiwi.  Yes we have identity issues in our fam.

Day job

Garden Landscaping but my dream is to slowly transition to Photography full time.

Camera and Lenses

I use a Nikon d800 body and a number of different prime lenses.  35mm, 50mm, 80mm.  I like the sharpness a good prime offers and also that it will make you physically move around to get your shot.

Inspirations

Man I’m inspired by getting my next good pic.  I like the chase.  Photography can be a little like fishing …  Some days you get a nice flathead for dinner.  Other days maybe nothing.  But you never really know and each outing is different from the last.

Without being too cliché, I also really just love photography because it gives me an opportunity tell a bit of a story, to share a little about myself.  It’s a cool medium for expression if you can’t paint – like me 🙂

Dream photography destination in Australia

There’s a number of great locations I’d like to explore.  At the moment Esperance in WA is a priority for me.  The turquoise ocean scapes look enticing.  I have a trip planned there in January, so that’s my immediate focus.

As we grow older we become more aware of some of the harsh realities that many people around the planet face daily; disease; war; poverty; famine. The more I’m exposed to these realities, the more thankful I am that this lucky, lucky country is the one I’m privileged enough to call home. It is truly, a lottery of life.’ #weareexplorers

At the end of our conversation, as he was leaving, he turned and said 'you know, we come in alone and we go out the same way. Things, this stuff we possess, when the moment comes, whatever that is, these 'things' they just don't matter'. #weareexplorers
