Overview

The Lake Mckenzie Eco Walk allows you to experience the best of Fraser Island in just two days. Experience the world-famous Lake Mckenzie, Lake Wabby, Basin Lake, and plenty of lush tropical rainforests!

Meander along Wangoolba Creek through Pile Valley and discover the giant Satinay trees. Camp under the majestic giants in an ancient rainforest and enjoy delicious dinners, plus a few wines! Your guide has camp set-up and cooking covered, allowing you to kick back, relax, and take in the wonders of your surroundings.

Itinerary

DAY 1 – Satinay Trees & Central Station Walkers Camp 10.7km

  • Depart Fraser Island Hiking’s Head Office in Hervey Bay after a hike briefing
  • Private 4WD and ferry to hike start point
  • Walk to Lake Mckenzie and break for a nutritious lunch
  • Take a refreshing dip in Basin Lake
  • Marvel at the Satinay trees, ancient rainforest wonders that emerge from the white sand
  • Wine and cheese for sunset nibbles
  • Dinner and overnight at Central Station Walkers Camp

DAY 2 – Lake Wabby & Eastern Beach 8.7km

  • Nourishing continental breakfast
  • 5.2km walk through untouched tropical rainforest to transfer point
  • Transfer to Lake Wabby Lookout
  • Short 1km walk to lunch and swim spot at Lake Wabby
  • Trek 2.5km to Eastern Beach final point of the walk
  • Transfer to Kingfisher Bay Resort for a celebratory sunset drink
  • Ferry back to Hervey Bay
