We’ve teamed up with Huckberry to each month bring you 6 of the most billy-badass pieces of adventure gear you can get your mitts on. We’re talking Ernest Shackleton meets Hunter S Thompson kind-of-clobber.
Huckberry was born five years ago by two 25-year-old guys who lived in the city but lived for the outdoors, envisioning a brand that helped people suck the marrow out of life. We like the sound of that.
Here’s our favourite items for July – perfect gifts for your nearest and dearest, but even better for yourself.
Expedition Classic Hammock // by Hennessy Hammock
Hang it up and hit the sack anywhere you find yourself
Hennessy Hammock is dedicated to making sure you are sleeping in comfort wherever your imagination takes you in the outdoors. The Expedition Classic is an all-purpose hammock great for everyday use. Comfortable, durable and loaded with features and extras — what more could you ask for?
Throw Puffy Blanket // by Rumpl
Rumpl blankets use the same technical materials found in premium sleeping bags and puffy jackets
Rumpl incorporates decades of proven technologies developed for the outdoor industry into their products. The materials have been tested and proven in harsh environments, yet specifically selected for comfort and durability. We think the blanket you use everyday deserves the same attention to detail as a sleeping bag you might use 10 times a year. The end result is a premium and versatile blanket that can be used anywhere you go… or when you don’t go anywhere.
Dinosaur Bone & Amber Single Knife // by Santa Fe Stoneworks
At 150 million years old, dinosaur bone is a rare and wondrous thing.
Damascus Steel is characterized by its strength, edge holding ability, and its dramatic appearance. The Damascus Steel used in these knives comes from Japan and is called Sanmai Damascus or Sandwich Damascus. There is a core of vg-10 steel with 16 layers of stainless steel on each side to produce a rust-free Damascus look blade. Combined with Brontosaurus bone, this knife is a head-turner as well just a head cutter-offer.
Explorer’s Watch // by Huckberry
After 20 years of research I believe Tru-Nord Compass is unsurpassed as the most accurate and dependable compensated compass ever manufactured.
The Tru-Nord Compass has been manufactured, assembled and packaged in Brainerd, Minnesota for over 66 years. Each Compass is manufactured on precision CNC from solid 1-1/16″ brass rod. The jeweled movement floats on a polished tapered pinnacle, covered by a Lexan® lens. The brass cover ring is then threaded to the brass case for a watch-type seal, making the Tru-Nord Compass truly water and shock resistant.
Hip Flask (8oz) // by Stanley
A straight shooter.
Around a campfire, this flask serves up a straight shot of your favourite spirit. Made with odourless and tasteless stainless steel, the interior won’t mix good whiskey with the aroma of last month’s Jager mistake. The slim profile slides flat into a pocket for discretion, for those occasions that require more than a toast.
Klettersack // by Topo Designs
Topo’s most classic pack design.
Topo’s classic Klettersack is an ideal travel companion, workmate, or pack mule for your daily hike in the hills. The Denver-based company uses 1000D Cordura for the exterior and coated pack cloth for an entirely-lined inner compartment. The natural leather lash tabs are perfect for securing extra gear or attaching a bike light.
