The Lowdown

Mt Cooroora is one of Sunshine Coast’s locals most loved hikes, featured in the middle of the hinterland town of Pomona at an elevation of 439m. The track is well known for its views, crazy metal staircases and rock scrambling.

The hike is well marked with signage at the bottom of Mountain Street in Pomona. The walk commences with a meandering path up to the base of the mountain, before some stair climbing (with the assistance of chains) and rock scrambling. The hike is a great cardio workout and leg burner, but you can take your time and reward yourself with the picturesque views of surrounding mountains, lakes and beaches.  Allow 2 hours return depending on fitness levels and rest breaks.

The path has a high level of sun exposure so make sure to apply sunscreen and carry ample water during the warmer months.

Getting There

Mt Cooroora is located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Township of Pomona, in the Tuchekoi NP (about 30 minutes inland of Noosa). Travel along the Bruce Highway following the signs to Pomona. Once in Pomona turn into School Street and then turn into Mountain Street. Park near the sign at the beginning of the walk.

Intermediate — track is well marked and is suitable for older children of a moderate fitness level.
