In Australia we have a waste problem. Our beaches, our forests and our bushland are falling victim to our inability to responsibly deal with rubbish. This weekend, we are campaigning for a cleaner Australia. Join thousands of other Aussies in cleaning up our beautiful world – then keep up the habit throughout the year. Beat the Bottle and Clean Up Australia Day are kicking off this Sunday 4th of March, will you be there?
Every plastic bag we use and fast-food container we’re given has to go somewhere, and plastic can take up to 1,000 years to decompose. This means that the rubbish we create today will still be hanging around in 30 generations time.
Our oceans in particular are struggling:
- At least two in every three fish are suffering from plastic ingestion.
- Up to 85% of Australian marine life is affected by plastic.
- An estimated that 90% of seabirds are eating plastic.
So what can we do about it?
